Ministry to organize Indonesian Puppet Show

Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Indonesian Tourism Ministry will organize an Indonesian Puppet Show at the eastern parking lot of the Senayan Sports Stadium in Jakarta on March 26, 20016.

The Tourism Ministry statement obtained here Saturday said that the traditional puppet show which would be performed for the entire night will present factual and conceptual stories linked to current events.

The Tourism Ministry will prove that the traditional puppet will not be outdated by the epoch and could be enjoyed by all segments of society and would provide educative material.

The puppet performance aims to stimulate arts creativity of puppeteers and encourage the people to love cultural tourism through comprehending, understanding and appreciating cultural tourism attractions in the puppet creation, Esthy Reko Astuti, deputy for national tourism development of the Tourism Ministry, said.

The wayang shadow puppets of Indonesia are such an important cultural and artistic legacy that UNESCO designated the tradition as a Masterpiece of Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity on November 2003

"We want to increase the image of puppet shadow show as an attractive tourism item to tourists," Esthy noted.

During the puppet event, the ministry will present four kinds of puppet shadow shows, namely the Ajen puppet which was once performed in collaboration with a Middle East culture last February.

There will also be Langen Budaya Indramayu leather puppet, Tuton Jawa puppet and the Mursidin leather puppet of Banten, West Java.
