TNI to Support UN-Ied Haiti Reconstruction Effort

The Indonesian Military (TNI) has announced plans to send 167 soldiers to Haiti to take part in humanitarian operations in the Caribbean country that was hit by a massive earthquake in 2010.

According to Lt. Col. Czi Winarno, the officers will be deployed to Haiti in three groups.

"Today, 148 personnel, as the main body [of the operation], are being sent off," Winarno said Monday.

The officers would travel on board a UN chartered flight leaving from Halim Perdanakusuma Airport, he said.

The officers, who were skilled in construction, would serve for one year in Haiti.

"Based on its success so far in the UN mission, Indonesia has been included in the mission," he said, as reported by tribunnews.com.
