World Junior Professional Surfers Compete in Bali

Canggu, Bali (ANTARA News) - Some 66 professional junior surfers from several countries will vie for the world championship at the Oakley World Pro Junior 2011 which takes place at a Bali beach from October 3 through 14, 2011.

"We are proud to become part of the world class professional junior surfing evolution by again conducting the world junior surfing competition as a series of the World Junior Professional Surfing Association," Oakley Sports Marketing Manager Ronny Nelson said before the opening of the competition at Bali provincial Parerenan Beach, Canggu, Badung district on Monday.

The participants of the junior surfing competition comprising 48 male junior surfers and 18 female ones under 20 years of age from the United States, Europe, Africa, Hawaii and Japan.

In addition, nine Wildcard holding surfers will also take part in the competition, Nelson said, adding that two of the nine wildcard holders namely Darma Putra Tunjung and IBP Samarai are hailing from Bali.

According to Nelson, in last year`s junior surfing championship two Australians namely Jack Freestone and Tyker Wrigth became champions.
