President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono will set off for Honolulu, Hawaii, on Saturday where he is scheduled to attend the two-day 19th APEC Summit on the weekend.

During the short trip, the President will be accompanied by First Lady Ani Yudhoyono and a number of state officials, presidential spokesman Teuku Faizasyah said Friday in Jakarta.

“Indonesia considers this APEC Summit in Honolulu an important event to ensure progress on the implementation of the Bogor Goals. Indonesia will push for an agreement on the Bogor Goals Progress Report Guidelines to ensure measurable progress of the goals in 2020,” Faizasyah says in a press statement sent to The Jakarta Post.

The Bogor Goals were adopted by APEC leaders during the APEC meeting in Bogor, Indonesia, in 1994. They aim to implement free and open trade and investment in the Asia-Pacific by 2010 for industrialized economies and by 2020 for developing economies.

Faizasyah said that under leadership from the US, the theme for the Honolulu Summit had been announced, “21 Economies for the 21st Century”, under which three sub-themes were also highlighted: strengthening regional economic integration and expanding trade, promoting green growth, and advancing regulatory convergence and cooperation.

The APEC leaders will also address issues of growth and jobs, regulatory reform and competitiveness, energy efficiency and security, he said.

Faizasyah added that Yudhoyono, along with the Japanese, Canadian and Singaporean prime ministers, was also scheduled to address a dialogue with prominent business persons in the Asia-Pacific under the coordination of the APEC Business Advisory Council.

“The Indonesian President will also attend a breakfast meeting with US and Indonesian business persons. This will be a chance for Indonesia to encourage them to enhance partnerships.

“The President is also planning to hold bilateral meetings with the Canadian prime minister and Russian president,” Faizasyah said.
