The Energy and Mineral Resources Ministry will prioritize programs on gasoline consumption control and gasoline-to-gas conversion in 2012.

“[These programs] will use a great deal of our energy in 2012,” the ministry’s director general for oil and gas affairs, Evita H. Legowo, said Monday as quoted by tribunnews.com.

Evita said the programs would provide an option of liquefied gas for vehicles, mainly for car users who had switched from using subsidized fuel to non-subsidized fuel.

The plan, she said, would be carried out in April, when adjustments to subsidized fuel were made.

As part of the conversion program, the government is going to build four gas-filling stations (SPBG) in Surabaya, Sidoarjo and Gresik, all in East Java, and offer 1,000 free converter kits to members of the public who are willing to use the liquefied gas later this year, according to Evita.

In 2011, she said, the government built four gas-filling stations in Palembang, South Sumatra, and gave away 500 converter kits in Jakarta and Palembang.
