Indonesia Appointed as ECOSOC Deputy Chief

Indonesia has been appointed as the United Nations′ Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) deputy chief representing the Asia-Pacific region. Indonesia will accompany Slovenia, which has been elected chairman, and Egypt and Spain, that have been elected deputy chiefs representing the African and West European regions respectively.

Indonesia, which holds the position until 2013, managed to outrun two contenders, India and Japan, during the election.

“Indonesia’s presence in the ECOSOC bureau is expected to contribute hugely to encouraging economic and social rights, and the reform of country members,” Indonesian permanent representative to the UN Yusra Khan said in a written statement sent to The Jakarta Post on Thursday.

 

The Indonesian government has ensured that people in the age group of over 18 years will receive the COVID-19 vaccine to expand vaccination coverage to 70 percent across Indonesia.
