10 July, 2012

The Jakarta General Elections Commission (KPU Jakarta) announced that the final voters’ list for the upcoming gubernatorial election comprised the names of 6,983,692 people and 15,059 polling stations across the capital.

KPU Jakarta chairwoman Dahliah Umar said the final voters’ list (DPT) was compiled from lists of voters in the capital’s five municipalities and one regency.

“These lists have gone through rechecking and revision from the preliminary voters’ list that we announced earlier in April,” Dahliah said in a plenary meeting.

The meeting was also attended by the Jakarta office of the Elections Supervisory Committee (Panwaslu) and members of the gubernatorial candidates’ campaign teams.

At the meeting, Panwaslu instructed the KPU to make a late revision and add names to the list, pushing the meeting to late in the evening.

On the preliminary list of voters, the poll body had recorded a total of 7,044,991 voters and 15,972 polling stations.

The approved candidates are incumbent Jakarta Governor Fauzi Bowo and running mate Nachrowi Ramli, Hidayat Nur Wahid and economist Didik J. Rachbini, Surakarta Mayor Joko “Jokowi” Widodo and Basuki “Ahok” Tjahaja Purnama, South Sumatra Governor Alex Noerdin and Nono Sampono, and independents Faisal Basri and Biem Benjamin, and Hendardji Soepandji and Ahmad Riza Patria.

Voting day for the election has been scheduled for July 11. The campaigning period has begun on June 24 and has officially finished on Sunday.
